Disabled Veteran Homestead
Own and Occupy your property as of January 1 of this year
You must have an ownership interest in your primary residence as of January 1 for the year you apply for the exemption. This means that if you just bought your property this year, you need to apply next year.
If you do not have an ownership interest in the property where you reside, you do not qualify for Homestead.
Be Rated or Compensated at 100% as of January 1 of this year
You must either have a rating of 100% disability from the Veterans' Affairs or you must be compensated at a rate of 100% based on a determination of individual unemployability.

A copy of your disability award letter that includes the effective date of disability must be provided when you apply.

Be Honorably Discharged and Provide a copy of your DD214
A copy of your Department of Defense Form 214 (DD214) must be provided to show that you were honorably discharged.

If you have not already, you may have this form recorded for free with the Lucas County Recorder's Office so that you can receive a copy when needed.
