Auditor's Responsibilities

Overview​

The County Auditor serves as the financial steward and property valuation authority for the county. This role includes setting fair property values through regular appraisals, ensuring the accuracy of commercial measuring devices, issuing various licenses, and managing the county’s finances.

 

As the Chief Financial Officer, the Auditor oversees the receipt and distribution of public funds, administers payroll, and ensures transparency through annual financial reporting—all to support local governments, schools, and public services.

Real Estate Appraisal & Assessment

The Auditor ensures fair and equitable property values for every parcel in Lucas County. By law, property valuation occurs twice in a six-year cycle. Revaluation occurs every six years, with a triennial market update three years later.

Steward of Public Funds

As the Chief Financial Officer of Lucas County, the Auditor manages hundreds of millions in County revenue, issues payments for all County obligations, and distributes taxes to cities, schools, libraries, and agencies​.

The Auditor also administers the following:

  • Motor vehicle & gasoline taxes

  • Estate & manufactured home taxes

  • Local government funds

​The Auditor oversees County payroll and publishes the Annual Financial Report.​

Weights & Measures

The Auditor protects consumers and businesses by verifying the accuracy of gas pumps, price scanners, and meat and product scales.
