Special License Types

Dangerous Dog License

If your dog has been determined to be dangerous or vicious by Canine Care and Control, you must also purchase a Dangerous Dog License every year. This license costs $50.00 in addition to the cost of the normal license.

Assistance Dog License

Assistance dogs must be registered with the County Auditor. The owners of these dogs must provide proof that the dog is an assistance dog. Assistance dog licenses are permanent.

Kennel License

If you own a kennel as defined by Ohio law, you may purchase a kennel license. These cost $125.00 for the first 5 dog license and then $1 for each additional dog license. Kennel license applications should be returned to Lucas County Canine Care and Control.

Transfers & Replacements

If you lose a dog license tag, you may purchase a replacement tag from the Lucas County Auditor's Office for $5.00.

If you sell a dog, you must complete a Transfer Certificate and send it to the Auditor's Office. The cost to complete an ownership transfer is $5.00. Remember, licenses stay with the dog, not the owner, so you cannot transfer a license from one dog to another dog.
